What is yChatter?

yChatter is a cool new mobile messaging app, enabling you to find a flat to let, houses to let or any other type of accommodation in an easy fun way. You can compose messages of up to 140 characters. And communicate with all people interested in your offer, and those who fit your criteria.
Renters and people advertising properties can:

  • send messages to each other ask questions about the property
  • arrange a property viewing
  • confirm a property viewing
  • if you are advertising your property you can offer it to the renter directly

At any time during the process of advertising your property , you can decline the renter. And likewise, a renter is able to decline a property and no longer follow it. yChatter will inform you of the declined person and will remove any awkward phone conversations if you decided not to share your phone number during the sign up process.

To use yChatter all you need is to create an account. You can do this via Facebook, Twitter or simply create an yChatter account.

Renters

If you are looking for a place to rent eg house, flat or just a room to rent - you create a renters profile and outline how much you wish to pay for rent, dwelling type (eg house, flat etc) when you wish to move in and all other details.

Renters using the mobile apps are able to use their current location if they have the GPS enabled and search for available properties without having to specify the location. Since our website is always available to you, you don’t have to have a smart phone to use yChatter.

As a renter you can search all properties, however you are only able to watch and message properties which match your profile. So if you are a smoker and the place is non-smoking, then you will not be able to add the property to your watch list.

Once a property is added to your watch list you are able to start messaging the person advertising the property and request a viewing, or book a property viewing to secure a rental.

When was yChatter founded?

yChatter co-founders David Robertson and Cheryl Aitken came up with the idea in late 2010 when they saw some of their friends, struggling to find a decent place to rent. David and Cheryl thought there must be an easier, interactive way to help people with their rental and tenants search, this is how yChatter started.

How can yChatter be made better?

If you have an idea on how yChatter can become the best rental accommodation service:

Real Estate Agents, Land Lords and Flatmate Finders

If you are a real estate agent, landlord or a flat mate advertising apartments to let, homes to let or just a room, you can create a property profile and upload up to 6 photos, featuring the place. You can take the photos on your iPhone or Android smart phones, and if GPS is enabled the property address can be identified too. You are also able to upload property photos from your pc and enter in the property address. Images are compressed prior to upload for iPhone and Android devices to reduce the amount of data used when uploading them.

To complete your profile, only takes a few minutes. You will need to add some listing information like cost per week, bond amount, number of rooms, if it is shared accommodation or not, pets allowed, smoking or not in the amenities, air conditioning, furnishing etc.

The final part of the property profile is the description - up to 140 characters in length.

Here, it’s a great idea to add any additional information about the place.
Eg:

  • Close to shops, great public transport, good access to M3, great neighbours
  • Great flat share, suit traveller, close to train and supermarket
  • Close to park, great for families, schools near-by, close to supermarket and bus
  • Indian flat share, bicycle park facility, secured building access, good bus and train transport 10 min walk
  • Gay flat share, close to cafés, near large shopping mall, lots of off street parking

Shared Accommodation

Flatmate finders looking for shared accommodation, you can specify the type of flat mate you are looking for:

  • Gender
  • Age range
  • Children are acceptable
  • Occupation
  • Smoking
  • Orientation
  • Pets

And if none of these things matter to you about your prospective flat mate, then no problem just say Doesn’t Matter. However if you are looking for a gay flat share which allows pets then this can be included in your profile.

Once you decide to follow a property, you can send messages to the person who is advertising the property.

The more accurate your profile is, the higher the success rate of finding the right property.
